"театр" glich in the "Hobby" unit, lesson 4
I got to this lesson and find that DUO will not accept any version of this word in just one question. As a result, I am stuck and cannot progress any further through the course.
I have tried to input the word in Ukrainian, "театр", and in transliteration as "teatr", but it will not accept either.
The word has appeared in other questions without any problems, but on this one question it won't accept.
Does anybody have any suggestions?
Thanks for indicating the exact lesson where you encountered that.
I've been able to reproduce that:
It looks like they used diacritic sign for а (а́) - теа́тр - to indicate the stress, (which is helpful for learners but of course it's almost never used in writing, unless it's a children's book or something), but didn't add театр as another correct variant of translation. Hence театр != теа́тр (according to Duolingo) and it doesn't accept your answer.
I wish I could help you, but I'm not a moderator, so a mod should spot that and add variants without stresses as correct ones.
Thanks! Do you know any way to add the diacritic on a Windows Ukrainian keyboard?
I did try to add an accented (а́) by switching to a Spanish keyboard, but DUO still would not accept it.
It works in MS Word, but doesn't seem to be working in the browser. You can give it a try:
Type a Ukrainian letter, for example, а. After typing а, hold the left Alt and type 769 on the numeric keypad (Num Lock should be on). In MS Word you'll get the accent over the letter.
If it doesn't work for you, you can just copy and save that somewhere:
And just copy-paste a letter from this list if necessary.
EDIT: I updated the list with є́. Thanks to LICA98 for pointing out the omission.
Thanks! - I found a workaround - I just copied the word from the correction at the bottom of the screen and then pasted it in the next time around.
Now I can make some progress!
Good luck with that! I do hope mods fix that for everyone else. I understand how frustrating it is.
