The Mandarin reading to this is bì mù shì And (according to Google Translate) Japanese unfortunately uses a different (but similar) word for this: 閉会式 keikaishiki . Well at least the first character sounds similar to 폐...

Japanese uses both. These emphasize something being revealed, literally opening and closing a curtain: kaimakushiki (開幕式=>개막식) and heimakushiki (閉幕式=>폐막식). The kaikaishiki (開会式<=開會式=>개회식) and heikaishiki (閉会式<=閉會式=>폐회식) emphasize the gathering.

It's a Sino-Korean word (幕) meaning a curtain. The full phrase as CF00I noted is "閉幕式" 閉=closing 式=rite/ceremony (although this is an older use)
