Downvoting Esperanto questions

I recently fixed my email notifications so now I'm seeing a lot of activity on the board - old and new - that I was unable to see before (for almost a year.) I'm seeing a lot of questions on the Esperanto board that have been downvoted.

It's probably a few individuals asking here or there - but we need to make sure that we have en environment where people can ask questions. It's part of learning. I would go further and say that it's the only way we can learn.

So... I'm asking that if you see a legitimate question with a negative vote, would you be willing to vote it back up to zero?

While I'm on the subject, I received feedback on another platform that an answer I gave here was "not the answer he was looking for." I answer a lot of questions and quite honestly, I know that I'm not always as clear as I could be. I hope people will feel comfortable asking a followup question so that I (or someone else) could try explaining better or in a different way.

That why I (for one) am here on this site.

I scrolled back a month or two and saw hardly any posts with negative votes. If posts are -5 or beyond then there's no way for non-subscribers to find them, however; if you think that lots of posts have been unjustly down-voted, why not compile a list of them here, and I'm sure people will vote them up if they agree. (Down-voted posts still appear in search results, though, and people are unlikely to scroll back more than a few months.)

Personally, I've always thought you give very good answers and explanations. I hope you won't be discouraged from continuing to do so by a single naysayer!

I was talking specifically about comments, not posts, and mostly about comments on sentences. Unless you're a moderator and have lots of spare time, I don't think there's an easy way to scroll back a few months to check for this sort of thing. This makes me think I wasn't clear. (Ironic in this situation, right?)

It's also not my answers that I'm concerned about - but about legitimate questions like "why can't I use word X here?" If it's just one downvote, I will vote it back up to zero. I'm not discouraged. It just seems like a rotten thing to do for a person who is doing their best to learn Esperanto. Maybe the people asking aren't bothered by that. You never know, so I try to bump back up any legitimate question I see.

Ah; I misunderstood 'a lot of questions on the Esperanto board' as meaning new threads asking questions, rather than comments in sentence discussions. These often get down-voted in all languages; I think there must simply be a component in the human psyche that make some people think that, because they know the answer themselves, the question is therefore of no value.
Your explanations of Esperanto grammar/usage I have always found clear; when it comes to everything else under the sun (one of which being the precise terminology to describe bits of the Duolingo forums), I'm sure everyone is prone to the odd ambiguity!

Kara amiko! Ŝajnas la temo estas tre Interesa. Sed bedaŭrinde mi ne ĉion komprenis. Ĉu vi povus skribi vian mesaĝon ankaŭ esperante? Se vi povas, bonvolu fari tion. Mi estus tre dankema al vi pro tio. Eble ne nur mi sola. ;)

Temas pri demandoj en la angla pri Esperanto. Resume: ni memoru ke ne ekzistas stulta demando se la demando estas honesta.

This has been a long standing issue here. I, too, try to upvote legitimate posts. And posts with a negative rating are not shown on the "Popular" tab, making them harder to see and be answered. For this reason, I always check the "New" tab instead.

And this one...

Someone asked a question. I answered it - then went off to consult with others about my answer and whether the sentence belongs in the course. When I came back, someone had given my answer a downvote. I'm going to delete it and start over.

I think at this point, my contributions to this board speak for themselves. I'm sure I've ticked off a person or two. My concern, though, is that a new person who saw my answer either didn't understand it or thought it should be more clear, then voted it down rather than as for more information.

Scroll down to andrewgtreantos - he asked "Soifos = will be thirsty ?" That sounds like a legitimate question to me. It's still at -10 votes!

Those who find such questions to be stupid will receive karmic retribution for their ironic sentiment; those who ask stupid questions eventually become smart, but those who refuse to remain forever stupid.

Do multaj ege malamis lian kutimon, do ili komencis sub-voĉdoni lin.
