To capture these thoughts, people who speak English might say something like: "It is not getting brighter, it is getting darker."
I know it's not exactly a one-to-one translation of the original but I would phrase it somewhat backwards, as in It's getting darker, not brighter. Sounds more natural to me having the action that's actually happening coming first.
