Armenian: Lesson 1, Part 1 of Lesson 2: Alphabet & Phrases

Hi, all! I'm here to teach you some Armenian. Now, I'm not a native speaker (I don't speak it at all) and I was hesitant about teaching it because I was worried I would teach the wrong things. However, because Woof has recently tried their hand at teaching Thai, I decided to be brave and attempt Armenian.

I had a friend of mine who was a native Armenian speaker, and made a couple of lessons, because I begged them too. This user has not been active recently, and thus, no new lessons have been made.

I managed to find the first old lesson but not the second part. So. Here's the alphabet:

Ա ա -a

Բ բ-b

Գ գ-g

Դ դ-d

Ե ե-ye

Զ զ=z

Է է=e

Ը ը=uh

Թ թ- t

Ժ ժ -zh

Ի ի- i

Լ լ- l

Խ խ- kh

Ծ ծ- tz

Կ կ -k

Հ հ -h

Ձ ձ- dz

Ղ ղ -gh

Ճ ճ-dj

Մ մ -m

Յ յ- y

Ն ն- n

Շ շ- sh

Ո ո- vo

Չ չ- ch

Պ պ -p

Ջ ջ- j

Ռ ռ -r

Ս ս -s

Վ վ -v

Տ տ- t

Ր ր -r

Ց ց -ts

Ու ու -u

Փ փ- p

Ք ք -q

Եվ և -ev

Օ օ- o

Ֆ ֆ- f

So there's the alphabet. Now, phrases (both east and west below)

Western: Hello - Barev - Բարեւ

Yes (formal) այո Ayo (I-O)

Yes (informal) հա Ha

No (formal) ոչ Voch

No (informal) չէ Che

Eastern: Hello: parev - բարև

I will add more phrases when I am sure of the translation. (I am visiting several different sites, and have only given what I am 90% is right.) If a native speaker could help, that would be wonderful. Thanks! -ML

Edit: On an unrelated note, just checked the incubator on the 'contribute to a course' page. Spanish is listed twice, with a weird red-and-white flag. What could this mean?

Edit 2: Remind me WHY I have to manually follow my own discussion again...?!

That's so weird. I see it too:

Or, if that doesn't show up: https://imgur.com/a/jNrJq

Maybe it's the flag for the new Spanish course...? So odd.

I love how people are doing this in Duolingo more frequently. I love just observing the alphabets of these unofficial language lessons and learning about their grammar (such as the Thai and past Latin ones). And, I also like how you have the courage to do this, despite you not being a native or fluent speaker of Armenian. I am such a coward because I would never bring myself to do this, even if I was fluent. So, thank you so much for posting this (and for your future ones to come)!

I've never had the ability to automatically follow my own discussions, so manually following them has been a normal reality for me. I guess this problem for those who do have (or had) that ability hasn't been fixed yet...

I just might start doing this for both varieties of Circassian! Stay tuned!
