Finnish for English Speakers (FI-->EN) Weekly Sentence Challenge 1/2!

Terve! To those (like me) who are anticipating the release of the FI-->EN course, every Tuesday, I will be releasing a sentence translation challenge to spark some more interest in the language!

Rules (for those who wish to follow them):

  2. Post your answer in the comment section below, to avoid spam, up-vote someone's comment if you had the same or a very similar translation.

  3. If there are individual words that are new to you, ask in the comments below, or look them up (just don't look up the whole sentence)!

Easy: Minä olen suomalainen ja puhun suomea mutta puhun myös espanjaa.

Intermediate: Hyvää Joulua ja Onnellista Uutta Vuotta!

Hard: Ilmatyynyalukseni on täynnä ankeriaita!

Crazy Finnish Vocabulary:

Jääkaappi - Ice Closet - Fridge

Henkitorvi - Breath Horn - Trachea

Hammasraudat - Tooth Iron - Braces

Tulitikut - Fire Sticks - Matches

Linja-auto - Line Car - Bus

Rintaliivit - Breast Vest - Bra

Lentokone - Flying Machine - Plane

Lohikäärme - Salmon Snake - Dragon

(fun vocab taken from an online post)

"linja auto" on myös väärin. Kyseessä on yhdyssana, mutta koska ensimmäisen sanan viimeinen kirjain on vokaali ja sama kuin jälkimmäisen sanan ensimmäinen vokaali, niin sanat yhdistetään väliviivalla.

Oikea kirjoitusasu on siis "linja-auto".

Joo, kiitos

I'm guessing the last one is "My hovercraft is full of eels". It's definitely "My something is full of something" and the first something looks like it could be some kind of airship. (I didn't look up anything.)

I'll leave the easy ones to other learners.

Easy: I am Finnish (person) and I speak Finnish (language) but I also speak Spanish.
(I looked up mutta and myös)

Intermediate: Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Hard: (I couldn't translate it; I'd need to look up every word T_T)

"mutta", not "muttaa".

In the hard sentence, you should be capable of translating "on". The basic form of that word is "olla".

Thank you. I'll correct mutta (hopefully I'll do better on future challenges).

Minä olen suomalainen ja puhun suomea mutta puhun myös espanjaa.

I am Finnish and I speak Finnish _ speak __ Spanish.

Hyvää Joulua ja Onnellista Uutta Vuotta!

Happy Christmas and Happy New Year!!!!

Waiiiit... Why "minä olen suomea"? Shouldn't it be suomalainen or Suomesta??

January 3, 2018

"Minä olen suomea" on väärin. Molemmat vaihtoehdot yllä ovat oikein.

Here is a lingot sir for your troubles

Ilmatyynyalukseni on täynnä ankeriaita! = My hovercraft is full of eels!

Who wants to translate this one? Olen kanojen kuningas.
