Are these words only used in the internet? How specific must the convrsation be in order to ever get to see this?!

The set of words formed from the suffix -货 all have a very negative connotation; while 吃货 in particular is gradually gaining acceptance, to most people (especially anyone over their twenties) this is still very hard on the ears, so you'd be better off only using this with close friends in very casual settings to prevent giving offense (or seeming to have bad Chinese!)

Generally speaking, 网络词 or internet terms should stay internet terms if you don't want to be seen as juvenile or uncultured.
