Does anyone know when the Chinese Duolingo course will be available?
Portuguese is next in line and they are still developing it so I think Chinese will be a while...
Aaaand looks like people want Italian and Japanese first! You can vote here: http://www.facebook.com/questions/419654551412053
I think Chinese is a bit more difficult to develop because of the characters. I would do it the same way. I would go by language groups.
Why would it be hard? It's actually quite easy to type out the characters (called hanzi, actually). Besides, they would teach pinyin before hanzi. :)
actually, it is better to learn the characters first, because you don't walk around china seeing pinyin. The characters （汉字）should be learned in collaboration with the characters and meaning. You should learn them all at the same time (时候）.
Please! Mandarin please - not catonese
Chinese is so much more useful than japanese, I can't believe Japanese has more votes.
Chinese is now soundly ahead in the Facebook poll. I hope they add it for English speakers soon.
Now Chinese is on no 2 ;)
Bloomberg's study of language usefulness is a helpful part of this conversation: http://media.bloomberg.com/bb/avfile/roQIgEa4jm3w
A study where a ranking is achieved by number of countries where the language is an official one. Some countries are more equal than others.
Chinese is very difficult to develop and to learn.
BUT Chinese is fantastic！！！
你的中文不错嘛。Your Chinese level is not bad
