Has the Italian course stopped being developed and supervised?

I have been learning Italian on and off since two years while at the same time attending a course at a local education center. I feel like the italian course has still quite some bugs and I try to report them as best as i can. but I don't have the feeling that those bug reports and suggestions are being dealt with. I feel like there are still the same mistakes like two years ago. What do you think?

Agreed. I report errors, and when I go to the discussion page it is clear they have been flagged from as long ago as two years, with no resolution.

I do understand it’s managed by volunteers who have busy lives, but it does seem particularly inactive at the moment.

Sometimes I receive emails with feedback from duolingo that a new translation [which i suggested in the report] is now acceptable, but to be honest I still see the old comments with reporting dates and some of irritating errors were not corrected for years. I really appreciate DL, I use it daily, but sometimes I feel that this course is supervised once a couple months just for few minutes each time..

And a general problem - after the recent DL update you cannot write a custom message with the report, as earlier, which is a really bad move.

I fully agree with you. Only once in 14 months have I received notification of an accepted translation. Yes, some of my translations may not have 100% accurate, but Im sure most of them would have been, because my Italian friends confirmed them as acceptable, and if they dont know, then we are all doomed. Even though DL is free, it is still important to have accuracy, otherwise we are learning rubbish. Its the main reason why I quit last year and turned to books and night school for a while. The sad thing is, if I could totally rely on accuracy I would have no problem paying the subscription, but for the moment Im happy to carry on investing in formal learning at school.

I totally agree with your comment that it's a problem that you can't write custom messages with the report.

Many times I have gone to report something, and found the options do not apply to the error that I am seeing, but there is no easy way to report the correction, so I just give up and don't bother, as I have a limited time to spend on duolingo.

Yes, it seems like lots of attention is being given by Duolingo to add awards, skill points, badges, and other meaningless bells and whistles, but very little attention is being given to making the actual language lessons any better. I would much rather that they add another suite of lessons or grammar drills or anything that actually pertains to learning a language. All the points, gems, badges, streaks, and other game-like parts are lame and a waste. They need to improve the learning tools, especially if they want us to pay money for it.

I also feel the tree is a little short and the vocabulary somewhat limited. I have kept my tree gold for some weeks but I don't feel my Italian is particularly strong.

I have this sense too. As usual the lessons passed a phase of intense discussion, but there's no new reformation or new things to add more. It is an almost closed bundle of lessons that Duolingo keeps it unchanged for some years. I also have problem to study the discussion board., There is no moderation (?), the newest tips there repeat the older ones, and so. It is a bit frustrating!

I am at a very basic level on Italian but can you point out the errors for me just so that I don't learn something that's incorrect. Thanks.

I don't think it's as serious as that. It's more a question of perfectly acceptable alternatives being rejected, or sometimes the English version of a sentence being a little unnatural.

And sometimes even the Italian version depicted is unnatural, but you can only know that if you read the comments for each exercise or if you ask a native speaker.

Yes, I agree. Whoever devised the courses doesn’t seem to have taken the rich vocabulary of synonyms in each language, especially English, which has an enormous variety of words meaning the same thing, into account. It is sometimes very frustrating, but eventually I got accustomed to “Duolingo language”. I’m now doing the reverse tree, ie American from Italian, which can be quite bizarre, not only because I’m not American, but Scots, I suspect. I haven’t bothered with bonus skills; I don’t need to learn flirting chat or idioms in American - autres pays autres mœurs!

I agree. I am learning Italian in middle school, and she recommends this app for us to use. She said that she grew up in Italy, and she found some errors. I'm on level 4, and it says I'm 14% fluent, although I don't feel I know anything well yet.
