Well, it's more than one, really: Britain is the big island (England, Scotland, Wales, Cornwall); Man is another island (despite John Donne, Man is an island); the Norman Isles, Shetlands, Orkneys, Inner and Outer Hebridees are achipelagios (Eilandgroepen? Of wat?), so Great Britain is several islands. Norther Ireland, which is not a whole island (or even a whole province), is not part of Great Britian, but all Ireland is part of "the British Isles", as defined by English geographers.

Great Britain is the name of the big island. "Britain" initially referred to the island plus Brittany, and "Great Britain" became the name of only the island. The island is often referred to as, simply, Britain, but Great Britain remains the precise geographic name.

The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (UK) was created by the Act of Union 1800 and constitutes the greater part of the British Isles, a group of islands lying off the northwest coast of Europe. The largest of the islands is Great Britain, which comprises England, Wales and Scotland. The next largest is Ireland, comprising Northern Ireland, which is part of the United Kingdom, and, in the south, the Republic of Ireland.

The Official Yearbook of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, prepared by the Office for National Statistics.

Does 'Engeland' only mean 'England', or does it also translate as 'Britain' and 'the UK'?

I'm not Dutch, but if they won't accept "Holland" as a translation for "Nederland", then they should know England isn't an island!
