Yay! I love the Spanish stories! ^.^ More French stories added in the future would be great as well ^.^. This feature is just the best. Keep up the great work!

I'm so excited for the new Portuguese stories! I was waiting for them a long time. Can't wait to start them, and give some reviews!

Question (and maybe a suggestion): What if WE create our own stories? Like, we make them for other people, and review them?

We could just have the story sent to those folks at duolingo, and it would have to be approved before making it public.

Presumably Italian because of how many learners it has and it was the first language to be added after the original 4 back in the day.

I have the impression that this new set is somewhat more difficult than previous stories, which is good. Thanks for giving us more stories!

On another note: the story muñecas de boda crashes before reaching the end... the other stories I tried worked...

Thank you so much, I love them.

I try to ration them, I think it is best to go back often to the stories, I alwyas pick something new, and some of the stories were quite hard at first but get easier with every repetition. I try to do one new and one old story every day and then do some training to get to my target 50 pts. I also like diversity of voices (different actors, even children).

The only ideas I have to make them nicer is maybe to add sound (there are parts where characters open chest, telephone rings, etc.) and add more pictures - I really enjoy the style. Or maybe to leave the picture next to the text at all times, just to give us something to look at. Maybe also add some interactivity - when a character says she wants a black dress, white hat and red shoes you can show a picture of the wardrobe and ask the learner to click the right items. Just few ideas.

Great! When are they coming out of labs? It's pretty clear they're a big hit.

Also, I was wondering if there is a way to make it so the stories strengthen your actual tree? Just a suggestion, and I could imagine it might be difficult to decide which skills each story would strengthen.

1/24/2018, 9:51:44 AM

https://www.duolingo.com/jakespirek

I'd love that too. I just finished all of the skills in my tree, so the advanced ones are all gold, but all the super basic ones that I already know are at 1 bar and I hate going through to get those back up to gold because they are SO BASIC. Would LOVE to be able to do these engaging stories that are interesting and slightly more challenging and get "credit" for those in my skills in the tree.

I would love to see a tree that was nothing but stories, (with some chatbot interaction thrown in too!) I think this is the future for DuoLingo. I'm guessing most people who start a tree never finish it. Gamifying stories could change that (and we could say goodbye to all those abstract bizarre sentences that only exist in duolingo world!)

This was amazing! I loved everything about the first story. Best thing Duolingo has done in ages. Two questions however: 1) Why aren't they available from my main page dashboard? I had to Google my way here to find my way back via your link above. 2) Are stories, like the bots on iOS, only available to native English speakers? I used to work from Spanish to French so that I could strengthen both, but so many features are only available to native English speakers that I had to switch back to English-French, which is not ideal (I much prefer the experience of Spanish-French in general).

It's probably because they're still in beta. You'll notice they're under "Labs", a section which is prefixed by "Duolingo Labs is a place where you can find experimental projects that we are working on. Keep in mind these projects may be discontinued at any time. Have fun!" I agree with you though. They'll probably be more prominent soon as they are so far a success :D

I'm a big fan of the stories. They're very helpful. This really rounds out the exercises. I'm also excited for the new levels that are coming. Between more complex levels and the stories, I've decided to cancel my subscription to Rosetta Stone and spend it here. You guys are doing such a great job.

The stories are indeed fun, but I do not see any way to flag the many new words that are used in the stories for future practice. I am refering to words that are not used in the entire skills tree. This to me greatly reduces the value of the stories in terms of really learning those new words introduced in them. So for me at least, while the stories rank high in terms of entertainment, they are poor in terms of actual learning, which for me requires some repeated practice of new words. I guess I could repeat a given story a lot of times, but there has to be a better way - any ideas?

I wonder if you could fix the lingot economy by making the stories available for purchase? I have way too many lingots and nothing to buy with them, and with the chests I'm earning another 1-5 lingots a day. Furthermore, by the time most folks would be ready for the stories, they would have completed their trees and would have tons of lingots to spend. Of course, I recognize that this comment could ironically just result in my earning even MORE lingots...

I would love to see the stories available on the Android app so that I do not have to log in online to read them. In fact, I wouldn't mind seeing the whole labs section on the app, the way I can see them on the Mobile page. But the stories are my priority. My apologies if this is the wrong place to give you feedback on the new stories- I have tried to enter comments in each story as it goes along but the space is very limited for anything but a short input

first- the stories are absolutely fantastic -it is the main reason I have started back using duolingo again after being away from it for quite awhile -had been on for a few years and sort of ran out of things to work on-the stories are a really nice addition-

I'm halfway through the level 6 stories in Spanish-- I love that language in the stories has gotten more 'advanced' as the levels have increased - I didn't notice it so much for the first couple of levels - this level in particular seems to have jumped alot. I am having a lot of difficulty 'hearing' the words. The speaking is VERY rapid-- and the speakers in this group seem to run the words together more than any of the prior stories. (yes, I know that is 'normal pace' !)- but Also the 'slow' button in this group is really ineffective in helping slow the speaking down so I can hear the individual words more clearly (that has been very effective for me to help train my ear to pick out the words in the long sentences. For me, anyway, once I know what the words are, they are easier to 'hear') -- in this group, the slow-button seems to mostly just be distorting the word, and is not working as well as it has in the prior groups.

so- please know that I am posting this here only to give some feedback--not complaining at all - having these stories is really fabulous- I hope you keep adding to them. thank you

I just discovered the stories on my Spanish Duolingo and I'm really enjoying them. There is a good mix of easy sentences, small exercises, vocabulary and entertaining short little stories. I recommend everyone try at least one to see what you think. It's a nice addition to an already robust platform for learning the basics of a language in a fun way.

Don’t know if this the right place to note this. Just did my Duolingo practice for the day, and in one sentence I translated “I have an apartment” as “Tengo un apartamento,” it counted that as wrong, offering the correct translation as “departamento.” Then a few minutes later I listened to the final story in set six, and all the way through, the word used for “apartment” was “apartamento”!

My students have weekly self-paced assignments (ie earned 100XP). Does this XP count toward their goals?

Are we going to see more languages in stories soon? How about Hungarian for instance?

so I have heard the Microsoft let's people upvote features in their backlog for Office 365, which is pretty awesome, because the most popular features get rolled out to end-users pretty quickly. Who else would like to see something like this for Duolingo? If Duolingo had something like that, I would up-vote Stories in Italian!

Sabem se vai ter mais historias em portugues em breve? Há muito tempo já terminei as história que já fizeram, e tenho vontade de ver novas histórias. Obrigado.
