What are some good Spanish films to watch?

Are there any great Spanish films you can recommend me? I really enjoyed Pan's Labyrinth, and The Sea Inside.

Try the films of Pedro Almodovar - All about my mother, Volver, Talk to her for example or Tango and Flamenco by Carlos Saura. Biutiful , Amores Perros and Y tu Mama Tambien are also worth watching. Good luck.

Have you seen Vanilla Sky? this movie is a remake of a Spanish film Abre los ojos. If you want a Latin American one, I recommend El secreto de sus ojos (Argentina)

If you liked Pans Labyrinth try some other Spanish Guillermo del Toro movies like Devils Backbone, El Orfanato (a fav of mine), Cronos, Crónicas. And I totally agree with Pedro Almodovar as long as you like Penelope Cruze (his fav choice for actress). Los cronocrímenes (Timecrimes) was good also.

So far we have watched 3 Almodovar movies and thoroughly recommend them. We have seen "the skin you live in" very dark, "volver" strong female roles and "talk to her" which someone describes as coma vs coma! Strongly recommend them.

"Amores Perros" is one of the most astonishing films I've ever seen! It deals with three different stories which are connected to each other by a car accident. I also suggest "También la lluvia", a history-drama film. Both are awesome!

El Mariachi is quite good fun. Desperado and Once Upon a Time in Mexico are sort of sequels but they're obviously in English.

Someone has just lent me a film called Jamon Jamon which I haven't got around to watching yet but it supposed to be quite good.

If you're trying to pick up new words you can try watching English films with Spanish subtitles or dubbed into Spanish if that language option is available, not all DVDs have this option but my copy of Blade Runner and Chinatown and a few others here and there do.
