Suggestions of cool German movies?

[deactivated user]

Maybe we can start of thread to list fun movies or TV series to watch as practice. Nowadays, turning-on subtitles for foreign language on a DVD is easy, so let's dig out some Made in Germany movies or where the story takes places there.

A few years ago I watched a movie called "Soul Kitchen", a story about a chef in Hamburg. It was pretty fun, and I can't wait to watch it again after a few more Duolingo lessons ^_^

I'm updating the list as suggestions come in, so please, keep sharing your favorite German movies:

    • Soul Kitchen
    • Türkisch für Anfänger (TV serie)
    • Die Welle
    • Blutzbrüdaz
    • Keinohrhasen

This a great idea. Alas, I don't know any german movies.

Well, one of my favorite series when I was in Germany was "Türkisch für Anfänger" that was really cool, there is also a movie about it but I don't know if it's on the internet yet, but the series for sure yes, I found it on youtube. It is really cool, very funny, not too hard to understand and you get to know not only a bit of that mixture of culture in Germany but of the youth too :) I really loved that series.

There are also two movies pretty good, they are called "Die Welle" about judism and all that problematic of the time that is really strong for the german history and the other one "Blutzbrüdaz" that one is more like comedy and that stuff it's about two buddies trying to get famous making rap.

And that's all I remember now. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did. :D

I've recently watched "Krabat and the legend of the Satanic Mill" and "North Face", both good. Sometimes DVD's have language options, so you can watch something you know dubbed into German. OK the lack of lip synch can be annoying, but it's useful because you know the story and can follow the thread at the same time as trying to understand the German. And if it has subtitles as well, you can read the German at the same time.

hehe, turning on German subs is the easy way :) I was more hoping to find Made in Germany or stories that happened there, to get a gist of the culture and see German signs all over :)

Keep suggesting movie titles, I'll update the list as it goes.

Netflix has quite a few foreign movies, and of those some good German ones. Of course, they have a lot of Nazi-based ones, but there are quite a few good ones on there.

Keinohrhasen.. that one is good too.
