When I lived in China bathrooms (of both 厕所 and 洗手间 varieties) were often explicitly labeled as "WC". It seems the connection was cemented in my head. Although "WC" (e.g. water closet) may sound archaic and quaint in both American and British English, given its common usage inside of China I ask the moderators consider "WC" as an acceptable Chinese-to-English translation.

to me the difference is just about toilet and bathroom (some sort of WC only and complete room) but this is my idea :D.

"near" and "next to" are just about even... so if a kitchen is "next to" the bathroom it is "near", therefore "the kitchen is near the bathroom" should be accepted.
