'Strengthen Skills' - has it changed?

Sorry if this has been asked before, but I couldn't find it by searching - Up until recently, Strengthen Skills would give me lines direcly related to any lessons I had that weren't golden, directly strengthening those, sometimes even multiple lessons at a time if they were only recently dropped down from gold.

Recently it only gives me random, mostly basic lines, and nothing related to my lessons that need strengthening. It still gives me experience, but doesn't upgrade any Memory levels or give me the 'You Strengthened: X and Y Others!" message that it used to. Is this a bug or has the formula changed?

I don't think this has changed. I've always noticed this from time to time before my current streak and it worked in Norwegian until a few days ago and still does in the other trees that I am currently keeping golden.

There may be a way to stop Duolingo from giving you the easiest words again. If you log out and enter your course from the beginning, copy the address to one of the yellow "test out" tests. Then log-in again and use the test-out link to test out all the basic lessons again. This might work, I've used this after the big Norwegian update where there were gaps in the middle of my course and afterwards I only got later lessons and thus the ones that weren't golden.

A lot of people have report this and the only solution i use is to strengthen individual skills instead the overall strengthen function.

I mean, this is what I'm doing. It's just a lot more time consuming.

I used to think so, too but this doesn't necessarily have to be true (see my post).

It helps you focus better to practice by strengthening the skill instead of generic strengthen. The mechanism on generic strengthen calculates words you have not been using lately which can cause your most basic eords to come up again although you used them in other exercises.

I find the opposite, if I clearly go into a subject to strengthen it, I tend to find I can contextualize the things I've forgotten, instead of a random approach where I can't go 'oh, yes, I'm in the Medicine course, so I can guess at legevakt.

That's a good point, actually.
