Dear Duo, please extend the time interval for Hungarian (and maybe also Russian) timed practice answers. The Hungarian sentences are at least twice as long as most other languages, and the Russian answers take longer because of the need to change keyboards (and the slower typing). Thank you!

A couple more seconds for any language would be good. But this is a lingot store item which is useful and not perfect. I am just glad Duolingo hasn't realised that and removed it.

I see that you are a contributor. So contributors have no control over the time limit, only bosses higher up in the Duolingo hierarchy?

Some of the Hungarian sentences are unnecesarily long, learners would be fine with shorter sentences.

Sorry, I don't know who is the contributor and how do you know? Is it there something about their picture. Love yours BTW.

I completely agree with extra time being needed.

Not mentioning that hungarian sentences are sometimes completely crazy and it takes time to figure out what they mean or what the author had in mind when he wrote them.

Moreover, having to write "kindergarten teacher" takes longer than "Jonas" or "Eva"

how do you write LOL in Hungarian texts? Is there a different abbreviation?

No, LOL is used. (In speech it's always pronounced [lol].)

To ipattorneyliza. How did you get to level 23 in Hungarian? I got the golden owl but at level 15? Did I just breeze through it too fast once I got past the middle part which was driving me crazy?

I do have a background in Hungarian from childhood but I didn't go to school there so I was doing this to learn to write. I have a pretty good sense of the grammar but not a very large vocabulary. I understand almost everything though and I can translate directly into English automatically without actual word for word translations. Therefore many of my English sentences were counted wrong and I had to learn the incorrect English sentences which were required to pass to the next lesson and give them back the next time they were on the screen even though they were wrong. I reported as many as I had time for, with screen shots.

Still, I did learn how to write.

What would I gain by spending more time and gaining more XP's in order to try to reach level 25? I would do it if the errors were corrected, but for now I am moving on to refresh French, and German which I also used to speak fluently. I think DUO is great for this but I wonder if anyone can learn Hungarian without prior experience.

It's very difficult for me. I don't have prior experience, but as I have a Hungarian passport, I want to learn the language. I got to Level 23 by putting many hours into it. You are right, the sentences are awkward. I am a contributor (the first and only native English-speaker), but since my Hungarian is poor, I hesitate to make corrections that I am not 100% sure of. Perhaps you could join to be a contributor and fix some of the sentences? It seems that we are short of contributor.

I would love to help if I could but my Hungarian isn’t good enough. I came here to learn to read and write. I can understand and speak but I did not go to school in Hungarian so I am in the same place that you are, not quite able to correct the Hungarian well enough not to lead people astray.

I am planning a trip to Budapest to visit my cousin and stay there for a while perhaps 6 months. I have not been there since 1995. My husband passed away so this seems like a good thing to do now. When my Hungarian improves enough I can help here.

OMG. I just did a timed practice. Anything that requires writing Hungarian is impossible in the time given, even if you know what you are writing and ignore all the vesszos and kettosponts. Even in English, it is a real stretch. You are absolutely right and it would be terrific to fix this.
