    Today's vocabulary:
    Augsts - high
    Balts - white
    Brūns - brown
    Dzeltens - yellow (all E are wide)
    Ērts - comfortable (Ē is wide)
    Garš - long, tall
    Garšīgs - tasty
    Krāsains - colourful
    Jauns - young, new
    Labs - good
    Liels - big
    Ļauns - evil
    Mazs - small, little
    Melns - black (E is wide)
    Milzīgs - huge
    Mīlīgs - cute
    Oranžs - orange
    Plats - wide
    Sarkans - red
    Skaists - beautiful
    Slavens - famous (E is wide)
    Slikts - bad
    Šaurs - narrow
    Vecs - old (E is wide)
    Veselīgs - healthy (all E are narrow)
    Violets - purple (E is wide)
    Zaļš - green

    Šis / šī - this (masculine / feminine)
    Kalns - a mountain

    You have learned that adjectives in Latvian have unidentified and identified endings.
    Mazs - mazais
    Liels - lielais
    Šaurs - šaurais

    Today You have to learn some new theory.

    To say something is more ... than something, add "-āk-" before the ending.
    Liels - lielāks (big - bigger)
    Labs - labāks (good - better)
    Everests ir augstāks nekā Monblāns. - Everest is higher than Montblanc.
    or
    Everests is augstāks par Monblānu.
    (With "par" you have to use instrumental case)

    To say that something is the most ... , use the identified form of comparative and add "vis-" or "pats". You can say:
    Everests ir visaugstākais kalns.
    or
    Everests ir pats augstākais kalns.
    Everest is the highest mountain.

    Sentences.

    Mans jaunais mētelis ir ērtāks nekā vecais. - My new coat is more comfortable than the old.
    Mazajai meitenei ir violeta kleita. - The little girl has a purple dress.
    Āboli ir veselīgi. - Apples are healthy.
    Baltais kaķēns ir ļoti mīlīgs. - The white kitten is very cute.
    Man ir jauns draugs. - I have a new friend.
    Līga vēl ir jauna meitene. - Līga is still a young girl.
    Tava mamma gatavo garšīgas kūkas. - Your mom makes tasty cakes.
    Andris ir garāks nekā Pēteris. - Andris is taller than Peter.
    Lielupe ir platāka nekā šī upe. - Lielupe (a river in Latvia) is wider than this river.
    Kalni ir ļoti skaisti. - Mountains are very beautiful.

    So 'Lielupe' means just 'big river'? I like that. It's practical.
