Ten Impossible German Words

For the last couple of days I have been trying to "Strengthen" all the words on my Words list back to 5/5. I find that there are ten words, that I cannot strengthen. These words are fahre, Werkzeuge, Mobel, Tische, Parks, Leute, Stern, Namen, und Messer. Kann jemand der Grund fur das erklaren?

There are only 4 levels so it's more 4/4. I would say that's an impossible task basically because the system is broken. 1/3 of my 2780 words are 1/4 and I constantly get them in my strengthening exercises.

What's more, some words we learn are not even on the list... Zwiebel, Hals and Landwirtschaft, just to name 3, are nowhere to be found.

Bottom line, don't bother... test skills rather than words.

Keine Ahnung. I had a look and found Werkzeuge in "Stuff". Did you try to strengthen it there? Interestingly, Stern is not on my list and I have finished the tree... I guess that means I have to keep strengthening to pick up more vocab. Can you do it on the reverse tree?

Mein Freund, those are some pretty difficult words, but it is impressive to see that you have carried a 44 day streak! Not much advice I can give (cuz I'm really really really new). Flash cards might help, writing them down on a q card and reciting them. Good luck, hope this helped a little bit!

The "Words tab" has already been broken for many years. The newer courses don't even have a "Words tab".

Thanks for the feedback. I had not realized that the Words tab was considered broken. Actually it works just fine for the vast majority of the words, just not for those ten. I was playing with the various features of the Duolingo German site, and I was trying to test whether strengthening the words that were shown as weak would improve my fluency percentage. I seem to have topped out at 71% and all the skills are golden. Note that if you go to the word list and click on one of the words, a pop-up window appears that gives the name of the exercise where that word appears. However, for those ten words, even after I went to the exercise, redid all the individual lessons, did the Strengthen Exercises several times, and then did the timed practice exercises until I beat the clock nothing changed. Despite doing all that the "Strength" level for those ten words stayed at a level of one.

The title I gave to this discussion seems to be misleading. My point was that I have not been able to "Strengthen" those ten words on the Duolingo Word list. I stand corrected that there are only four Strength levels. I was apparently extrapolating from the 5 Strength levels on the Skill exercises. After further research, I have found that you only get "credit" for strengthening a particular word in the Skill exercise that is linked to that word. For example, the word for horse, "Pferd" appears in many Skill exercises, but it is linked only to the Skill exercise "Animals 1". Working through all the other exercises where Pferd occurs will not increase the Strength level for the word Pferd. This is not intuitive to the user, but it would be much harder to program. All in all, I find that the Word list and the associated "Strength" metric is a useful motivational tool. But back to my original point, I find that I cannot increase my Strength level for those ten "impossible" words. I know the words quite well, this is just a bug in the program somewhere. Again, I love Duolingo, and I have become addicted to it. I have found it very useful and motivating. This is just a very picky small detail. Keep up the good work Duo.
