Why does camera translate to "appareil" in some places here and in other places it causes an error and says it must be "appareil photo" ? Which is correct?

Duolingo's flawed sometimes. In context, you should be able to say both, like if I'd say "Hey, let's take some pictures !" "Oui, je prends mon appareil". Everybody will know what i'm talking about. But appareil photo is the real translation for "Camera"

So, it's a slangy term like "cell" instead of "cell phone" (which is yet another shortened version for cell telephone). OK, next time I get dinged for it, I'll leave a ticket. Thanks!
