I've decided to start a weekly newsletter of sorts, to share resources, tips, and updates on what's going on behind the scenes. If you have any ideas or requests for future topics, feel free let me know in the comments.

This week I'll be kicking it off by sharing a new pronunciation app, which is a collaborative project between SoundsGood and NTNU, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. It's only available on iPhone and iPad for now, which means I haven't been able to test it myself, but I'm taking a chance at sharing it nonetheless. It's a brand new app, so it may be a little buggy, but let's face it... if you're here, you're no stranger to bugs. ;)

What it does is give you exercises based on your native language, to help you practice the sounds that are typically challenging for someone with that specific linguistic starting point. It supports 77 native tongues and six Norwegian dialects.

screengrabs from the app

The official site: https://www.itsoundsgood.no/

iTunes link: https://itunes.apple.com/app/id1287231077
I know it's currently available in the Norwegian App Store; not sure about the other regions.
Edit: Now confirmed as available in the US.

Happily stuck on Android like me? Then you can at least get some reading practice from this release article: https://forskning.no/2018/02/bedre-norsk-med-skreddersydd-sprak-app/produsert-og-finansiert-av/ntnu

For writing practice, I'm sharing some of this week's new sentences. Post your translations below, and if any of them are missing from our Incubator list of accepted translations you'll earn yourself a lingot for helping out. Perhaps you'll even spot a reference or twelve... :)

You can do as many as you like. They're in no particular order, so if you're still a beginner, just pick the ones that look doable.

Yay, bare hyggelig =)

I tried to install the app btw but neither the Dutch nor the US store seems to have it... I can switch the store to Norwegian on my laptop and can see the app there, but I haven't been able to do the same on my iPhone? Does anyone have suggestions on how to do that? =)

Bah, that's disappointing... though not altogether surprising. I'm not iOS-savvy enough to have any Google-free tips, but hopefully someone will.

Din tro var sterk, men du trengte bevis.
Your faith was strong, but you needed proof.

Du så henne bade på taket.
You saw her batheing on the roof.

Kjære, jeg har vært her før.
Dear, I have been here before.

I have seen this room, and I have walked on this floor.

Har du mottatt pengene?
Have you received the money?

They live on a ship, and drink champagne every night/evening.

Alt kan skje.
Anything can happen. (I know a literal interpretation would be "everything", but logically that's not true, and it's not the idiom.)

Ulykken kostet oss verdifull tid.
The accident cost us valuable time.

The thief had stolen only underwear and a bottle of wine.

Spis så mye du vil.
Eat as much as you want.

Vent på søsteren din.
Wait for your sister.

Vent til vi er ferdige.
Wait until we are done.

Ikke vent for lenge.
Don't wait too long.

Lek med barna før de blir voksne.
Play with the kids before they grow up.

Hjelp henne på bussen.
Help her onto the bus. (As in, help get onto the bus, rather then helping her once she's on it.)

Lukk døren når du drar.
Close the door when you leave.

Lukk øynene og slapp av.
Close your eyes and relax.

Tro hva du vil.
Believe what you will.
Believe what you want (to).

Ikke kjøp mer enn du kan bære.
Don't buy more than you can bear.

I am not crazy; I only like white jackets.

This man says he wants to give me his entire fortune/all his wealth.

Du har gitt meg mye å tenke på.
You have given me much to think about.

Kommer du hit ofte?
Do you come here often? (Is this for the Romance module? ;-) )

Har du sett nøklene mine?
Where have you put my keys?

Jeg har sett verre.
I've seen worse.

Før eller senere
Sooner or later

Du må trekke sverdet ut av steinen.
You must pull the sword out of the stone.

I don't know if I understand modern art.

You dreamed of a war that everyone won.

I said you like art and beautiful men.

Savner du hjemlandet ditt?
Do you miss your homeland?

Kan vi forsette nå?
Can we continue now?

I remember that as if it were yesterday.
I remember that as if it was yesterday.
I remember that like yesterday.

Jeg møter mange mennesker gjennom jobben min.
I meet many people through my job.

Katten prøvde å selge meg noe.
The cat was trying to sell me something.

Hvorfor henger det et sverd over hodet mitt?
Why is there a sword hanging over my head?

Europa brenner!
Europe is burning!
Europe burns!

There were only three sentences that I knew I had forgotten one of the words. I think the rest are correct.

Tro hva du vil.

I would translate that as either: Believe what you want. Or: Believe what you will. But this one:

Spis så mye du vil.

Can only be: Eat as much as you want.
