Is "Wechsel" the same as "Änderung"?

Hi Christian. Can you add some more details to your comment. I'm not able to see why my suggestion doesn't fit from an etymological standpoint ( http://de.wiktionary.org/wiki/%C3%84nderung ) even though I'm not native speaker. Thanks.

It's a slightly different concept. The German for "variation" is "Abweichung", "Unterschied", "Variation" or "Schwankung".

Got your point, albeit lexically and semantically "Ab-weichung" is a little off the beaten track in my opinion. You might have a look at Leo dict ( http://dict.leo.org/#/search=variation&searchLoc=0&resultOrder=basic&multiwordShowSingle=on ). Die "Ver-änderung" represents the second best match. Bye & thanks.

Google Translate gives 'Veraenderung' as a possible translation of variation.
