I would rather say that pants are "alsónadrágok" and "nadrágok" - trousers.

I think you are thinking "underpants". Or some regional differences. In American English, "pants" are regular "nadrágok", as far as I know.

------- fwiw, 'gatya' are the bloomer-type pants that the cowboys on the puszta wear, as well as, what we normally think of as underpants (for men ). and, as long as we're talking about clothing, 'bugyi ' (for women ) . . .

You can also, derisively/colloquially, refer to someone's (ugly) pants as "gatya".
