Translation:Ich möchte, dass du mehr Wasser trinkst.
Thats not good English. Better to say simply' I would like you to drink more water'. Using the word 'for' in this way is not correct gramatically.
It may not be correct English, but I've heard teachers, doctors and nurses use this exact phrase. I think "for" helps soften the phrase so not to sound so harsh or like COMMAND. It still might not be correct English though. I suppose, it's more like "ain't".
