I summarized a list of reading resources for learners of different levels in this comment. The last resource on the list, Aozora library, is an online repository for literary works written in or translated to Japanese, grouped by author's name.

I wish I could help you find a good pick, but search up "bestselling Japanese authors" (if you haven't tried). However, keep up with learning Chinese and you will realize the similar derivation Japanese kanji has to offer.

Haruki Murakami is a phenomenal Japanese author. I don't speak Japanese so I've only read some of his books in English. You will need to be at a decent level to appreciate his work, although it's all in English too, so you could read a book in English while you study, and then by the time you finish try rereading it in Japanese, since you already know what's going on. I used to do this with French books.
