Did you ever hear the laddering language method? Well I can imagine studying two romance languages simultaneously like Italian, french, spanish or portuguese.

Thanks for the idea! I googled it, it is an interesting concept. I can say I partly use it as I use English as a springboard for French and German (my native language is Russian). However, learning German through French seems rather tough at my level :-) Maybe I'll use French to learn Italian some time, but more likely is that I'll stick with English as the most popular language...
