G'day Duolinguists,

I've been amused by the themes of example phrases for Russian, so I wrote a little blog post to share the fun.

yep! The russian course is the most popular appearance in the 'wtf duolingo' compilations scattered around the internet. courses like this are so fun to complete because the contributors' humour shines through.

Words of Putin are incredibly funny, too. Listen to him and you often cannot stop laughing out loud!

If may notice in most of the sentences Duolingo uses for Russian, negation is everywhere. Not, "I have food" but "I don't have food." Not "That is your name" but "that is not your name." Strange....

My favorite would have to be, "you want to sleep, right?"

Great article, comrade. And best of luck on your Russian journey:)!

Bravo! Nice compilation and great storytelling! :)

My favorite from the course has got to be "Real ducks live in the house". No amount of horses, Анны, and sexual innuendos will dethrone that statement for me...

‘Это кофе или борщ?’ Смешно, но допустимо, особенно если кофе плохое. А могли бы написать что-нибудь вроде ‘Это кофе или Северный Полюс?’

Слово "кофе" всё же мужского рода, несмотря на принятые нововведения.

Yup, you've hit the bull eye. All this is probably funny for a foreign ear, but those sentences show the very important part of our mentality. That's the way we speak in our everyday lives.
