Relearning the dutch language
Left Holland at age 9 for Australia, am now 70. Going back for short trip 2018 and would like to be able to hold a conversation. Can understand a bit if the "dutchies" are not speaking at an all mighty rate of knots. Shame I let the language lapse. Duolingo is reminding me of words which are buried a long, long way in the brain box, very surprising considering I only had a child's mentality of the language. Wish me luck guys.
Good luck! I've had a similar experience since I went to a Spanish immersion when I was little. Currently, my school has an advanced Spanish curriculum that I am learning and it is refreshing my linguistics.
It must have been an interesting experience for you to pick up a language used in childhood. Fingers crossed!
Crossed Keith they are.!! A few acquaintances, when we see each other, speak Dutch to me, but at times I am absolutely "stumped" for the word to use. This is where I am finding through Duolingo, a wealth of vocabulary in the "brain box". Just need to get it to the fore.
Best of luck! By no means are you the only Duolingo user with such an aim. I find such stories particularly inspiring :)
