About а and о

Sometimes а sounds like "a" and о sounds like "o", but then sometimes а would sound more like an "o" while о would sound more like an "a" andI'm really confused... My question is phrased so badly it probably hurts your head but please help if it makes any sense to you! Thank you!

Unstressed "o" sounds like "a". Or, one can say, both unstressed "o" and unstressed "a" are reduced to a schwa sound, which is kind of close to "a".

stressed о is pronounced /o/
stressed а is pronounced /a/
unstressed о and а are pronounced /ɐ/ before stressed syllables and /ə/ elsewhere
