Two questions about French

  1. How do you know when you can start using the “tu” form of address with people? Is it an unspoken agreement? When addressing a pet, should I use “tu” or “vous”? (The pet is a cat if that is important).

  2. I forgot what my second question was....too much DuoLingo, I think. J’ai oublie ma deuxieme question....trop de DuoLingo, je pense.

P.s. I’m writing on my iPad and it wants to autocorrect my French....does that happen to anyone else?

it is an unspoken agreement. when you are quite acquainted with someone, you can use ''tu''.

Do not use ''vous'' when addressing a pet unless there are more than one. It is oddly seen to use formal language with an animal, this applies in french as well. :)

I hope my English is understandable :P

I'm from Canada, and the "get acquainted with the person" before using "tu" works in Quebec, here. However, I have heard in France they are much more formal about this and you almost have to have the other person tell you that it is okay to "tutoyer"/be on familiar terms with them.

i dont know about french but in russian you usually ask the person something like let's go on ty (ty is the informal you)

i think in french this would be on peut se tutoyer?

oh good luck remembering the second question
