A Couple Questions From a Beginner

Saluton al ĉiuj!

I'm new to Esperanto, but am eager to learn. I have a few questions for those who are more experienced in the Esperanto community.

1) Other than lernu.net, what other websites are important to know about? Specifically, I'm looking for websites that foster communication between Esperantists (like a Facebook for Esperanto, I suppose).

2) Would anyone be interesting in having an Esperanto pen pal? If email is preferred, then I could live with that, but I would like to write actual letters. I think this will cause me to better learn Esperanto.

Dankon!

I would invite you to Esperanto Variety Show on YouTube. Take the free course Lernu kun Logano - or watch a video in Esperanto, then comment in Esperanto about the video. Someone will write back.

Mi pensis hodiaŭ, ke mi amus skribilamikon, por mi leri pli bonan Esperanton! Mi pensas, ke ĝi amuzigus!

Se vi ŝatus, se vi respondus, ni povus paroli pri ĉi tiun pli!

(I was thinking today, that I would love penpal in order for me to learn better Esperanto. I think that it would be fun!

If you would like, if you answer, we could talk about this more!)

You may try searching for yourself in Esperanto in a search engine of your choice. Some useful words may be „korespondpetoj“, „korespondi deziras“ (speaking of pen pals), also „skajpo“, „skajpantoj“ (for talking with people via Skype). There are also some good old tested addresses — like the „redakcio de la Ĉina Radio Internacia“, they used to answer every letter and add some Chinese artifacts to their letters (like postcards).

There are lots and lots of facebook groups - the 'esperanto for duolingo learners group' is populated by people who have come from this course and want to improve and have questions about basic to intermediate esperanto - it is moderated and supported by a number of VERY experienced and helpful esperanto speakers( including the ones who wrote vast chunks of this course) . I highly recomend it. The language of use is either esperanto or english.

There are also a ton of esperanto only groups on facebook for when when you feel ready for it. Even if you don't feel up to writting you can lurk on the side lines and read lots of posts from experienced esperantists just using the language to chat ( and argue) with each other.

I myself am a member of groups about crochet and knitting, cooking, general discussion, esperanto issues, sexual equality in esperanto, a women only group, advanced linguisting questions, esperanto films and music, the duo Esperanto from english group, the general esperanto from duo group ( ie english, spanish and whatever else comes along) and a few others i can't recall right now.

there are some facebook groups out there for esperanto that are pretty easy to find, but i haven't used them myself. telegram is probably the best option, but there is also a discord group for the subreddit /r/esperanto, which isn't as active, but there are people around.
