Bats pollinate bananas, and help disperse their seeds.

However, the bananas you find in the store are seedless, so you can't thank the bats for those particular ones. Unless you want to, of course; I won't stop you.

I understood the sentence differently. Coming from a tropical country, where windows are often left open even during the night, it's not uncommon to have a bat come into your apartment to steal your bananas. In this case, the sentence would have a touch of sarcasm. ;)
