Struggling with numbers...
I just cannot get used to French numbers over sixty! Is there any good way to overcome the frustration with soixante-et-onze and quatre-vingts and...so on...
That has always frustrated me as well. I know that in some other French-speaking countries there are separate words for seventy, etc., which makes a lot more sense, mais ça va. I think of the French number system in groups of 20: 1-19, 20-39, 40-59, 60-79, and 80-99. This is helpful for me because it allows me to isolate the patterns within each group of numbers (although of course 20-39 and 40-59 are the same).
I'm glad to know I'm not the only one to be struggling! I know I just have to get used to it... but the more I think the more headaches I get! Ripcurlgirl shared the music video on numbers down bottom. I will try to sing along to memorize them section by section as you suggested. Bon courage pour vos études!
This is a really fun video for French children (and us dopey foreigners ☺) to teach them to count from 1 to 100. It is done in blocks throughout its 6:33 minute video with 50-70 starting at the 3:43 minute mark and 70-100 starting at the 5:08 minute mark. So, if its only 70-100 that you have problems with, you only have to listen to about 1:25 minutes worth. And it is quite catchy - you might find yourself singing it in your head.
Bon courage !
