No More Maximum Club Member Limit :-(
Today (14 Mar 2018) the 15 person max has been removed from my club and suddenly I have 50 people in the club - which is simply not manageable. ... I'd hate to have to shutdown the club after 9 months of encouring it's core members and welcoming new members as slots become available. ... How can the original 15 member limit be restored? ... Has DouLingo or my club been hacked?
I don't like it either. I had a nice active club of 15 members. Now there are babbling teenagers in my group that ask in which grade I am. I am the admin, but I have no tools to control this group. When they use swearwords, I can't even remove the remarks. I would like to be able to make my group private. But that option has disappeared as well. Bad move Duolingo. I'm seriously considering to quit.
Are you on Android or iOS?
I thought I had no controls but iOS is frustrating. I found out eventually, if you tap and hold for a few seconds in the right places options pop up like ‘delete’ and sometimes ‘report’.
I went gung ho on my club and made 5 Threads that people could only post in the correct one and not spam. Deleted the rest and removed users that were issues.
It’s calmed down and not crashing now, but still 50 notifications a day instead of 2, and not sure people can see or just ignore the club name and description.
Duolingo extended the limit to 50, but if you want to keep your club small you only have to edit your club and switch off "Public". Nobody will see your club in the suggestions.
Same here, I'm going crazy, the app is slow and there's creeps and less controls
The public/private option is gone in iOS, but looks like I can still access it from Android 'LEADERBOARD' -> 'edit'.
iOS just has a 'Members' page, with 'Invite' or 'Leave Club'.
Was there an announcement about this? I can't find it
Luca, thanks for this tip. It's given me a way to keep the size of my club manageable. :-)
I am having trouble managing my club as well. There are a lot of children with childish behavior and inappropriate comments. I am tempted to give up the club that I began. I asked for people with only a 100 day streak or more to join so that I could get more serious learners together. Now I am having to remove the knuckleheads every two to three hours. This is becoming very unmanageable. What used to be fun is becoming a job that I do not want. I really hope that something changes for the better so that I don't have to "leave" my own club.

The club in one of my test accounts is not listed for the public anymore. So, I did not remove the inactive members this week. Also the Duolingo questions are disappeared.
It seemes Duolingo's staff is doing a lot of different so-called A/B tests in the clubs feature.
I quit my clubs because suddenly a lot of annoying people joined who posted a lot of inappropriate comments. I also think that club admins should be able to set the maximum size and/or get better tools for managing their clubs.
It would be a nice feature if there was a setting for the club admin to specify the max members for their club.
We always had that option. It has now disappeared. My Spanish club was suddenly filled up by 35 new members, yesterday. They are young teenagers who just wanted to chat. Very few of them were doing any exercises. I ‘left’ my club and turned everything off. When I tried to return- I was told it was, ‘full,’ Lol.
When I tried to set up a new club, the public/private is only available initially.
Were we told of this change and why would they want to take away size control from the Admin ?
My club keeps with the same amount of members so far. I wouldn't bother if it had 50 members. I only use to expell members once a week, anyway.
If someone is causing issues in your club you can remove them. If they are not causing issues in your club but you feel the club is too large, you can remove them. You might be vulnerable to being reported so I would suggest you have some systemic (fair) way of removing people. Also, at my club, I remove anyone who goes two weeks without activity or who has no XP in their first full calendar week as a member. I hope this helps.
