why do you block word predictions on google keyboard?
so when you're translating to English everything is fine
however when you're translating to the language you're learning it always blocks the suggestions bar
swiping still works but in case it doesn't predict the word you need it's very annoying as you can't see the suggestions and click on the right word and you have to erase the word completely in case the word you swiped isn't the first choice
apparently this was an issue already 2 years ago and it still hasn't been completely fixed
I'm unfamiliar with Google keyboard, but are you sure this is a bug? Perhaps it's intentionally made like that so that you have to think about the spelling of each word, otherwise it might get too easy.
FYI, the current versions of Duolingo for android (starting from 3.83.3) have suggestions enabled. I actually want the exact opposite bahavior, so I guess it's my turn to use a stale version ;)
I think this should be configurable.
wow, thanks for the info
btw if you don't want the suggestions why don't you just disable the bar in the keyboard settings? or if you need it in other apps you can just add "Alphabet" as the language so the keyboard won't be in any language and thus won't give suggestions
I want suggestions for English (especially for Duolingo), but no suggestion for French.
I know this is an old thread, but did you ever find a good solution to this? I "upgraded" to the latest version of Duolingo for Android and absolutely hated the garbage UI changes they made, so I uninstalled and downloaded the previous APK, but now I get the word suggestions for German as well as English, and they only used to be there for English. I'm trying to get that old behavior back, but nothing seems to be working for me.
I like the fact that there is no text prediction. Before I installed the Google keyboard, text prediction allowed me to do my practice without actually thinking. I almost never used the app because of this. Now I have to think about what word I want, and more importantly, how to spell it. Text prediction used to remember what I had typed last time and suggested it. That meant that when I did an exercise again, I would just choose the same answer that I made last time. There was no learning going on. It's much better now.
