In English English, it is very bad form to say 'off of'. It may be OK in American English. In English we would say 'He fell off the cliff.'

It is a misconception to attribute it to American English. The expression "fell off of the" is hardly used in either American English or British English.

You should remove "off of" as everyone seems to agree that it's poor grammar.

I'm American and I think I'd be more likely to hear "off the cliff" here as well.
