Translation Help! English - French
Hey. I had to translate the sentence 'This is a house with a lot of work to be done' and my answer was 'C'est une maison avec beaucoup de travaux être faire'. Duolingo said the correct answer was 'C'est une maison avec beaucoup de travaux à faire'. Can someone explain why it is 'à faire' and not 'être faire'. Merci beaucoup!
"Être faire" means nothing in French. You can use "être fait" instead. But in your case, you can't use it. Personnally, I would translate as "This is a house with a lot work to do", but I'm not aware about all the subtetlies of the English.
Thank you! I understand it better now. In English, we would be more inclined to say 'There is a lot of work to be done on this house', but how you translate it is completely acceptable too. Good luck with it!
