2018-08-23 Knee pants? Or is it similar to, "Oh, look how cute! The child has little black pants!"?

Why not, "The child has a small black pant"

Because the French term "un pantalon" translates to English as "a pair of pants".

Un pantalon = a pair of pants, or pants.

Un pantalon noir = a black pair of pants, or black pants.

Un petit pantalon noir = a small black pair of pants, or small black pants
