Change in Spanish Tree?
OK, I don't know what just happened. I finished a skill, en when I got back to my tree it looked completely different. Also I'd gone from something like 84 crown to 27.
Only explanation is at the top of the screen where it says: Notice something different? We’ve updated your skill tree to teach you Spanish more effectively. Where has everything I've learnt gone? This is beyond demotivating.
for me this happened when i followed the tip to create a classroom in schools.duolingo to see the words per skill. that kicks you to the old tree. deleting the classroom reverts it again.
Thanks for the tip. I just created a classroom to be able to see the wordlists. I'll delete it and see what happens.
Dude, you are a genius and I love you. I deleted the classroom I made (for the same reason you mentioned) and got my old tree and progress back.
It happened to me too. I don't mind changes in the tree because I felt that it was lacking quite a lot but instead of adding basic stuff they should work on some explanations in the more advanced grammar sections. There is nothing there just jump in and figure it out yourself (or search other websites for explanation of other forms of verb etc.) Are the modes in Spanish used the same way as in English? I don't know there is no instruction whatsoever.
Strange. Duo is rolling out a new crown system that has been painful for some, but you shouldn’t lose XP.
Yeah, I got the crown system about a week ago. There are definitely pro's and con's there. But to suddenly completely lose a bunch of finished skills (they're not even in the tree anymore) is very irritating.
There is a new version of the Spanish tree that has undergone A/B testing for a while, so you most likely got the update.
I was part of the A/B testing. So this is the second time (apart from the whole crowns thing) that my tree has changed. And I've only been here for a few months. Everytime it feels like I'm getting somewhere I get the rug pulled from under me.
Now I wonder if I got the crown system but not the new tree. My tree hasn’t changed except for going to the crown system. I don’t care about losing the golden tree really. The only thing that annoys me is that I had finished the tree and as lessons became ungolden i could redo, them and not lose health if I got a question wrong. Now,on the iOS app, I lose health and have to switch to the browser. Otherwise I don’t care if the tree isn’t golden.
I can't believe that's the only message/notification they gave us. How amateur/irresponsible of them...it's the whole point of language communicating effectively. Big fail to Duolingo on this...what the heck is the notification thingy for...so notify us!
I am also having trouble with the Spanish tree on the iOS app. It keeps resetting lessons and I cannot move down the tree nor up levels as a result. I filed a bug report, but have heard nothing.
This just happened a few days ago to me. I finished the entire (old) tree once before but there's a whole bunch of super basic new stuff at the beginning. Even if you take all the leveling up tests it takes AGES to complete everything, of which most is not very educational for me... Also all the leveling up tests seem to have more or less the same content. The level up test from 0 to 1 and from 1 to 2 all the way through 5 are almost exactly the same. So I'm basically doing the same test 5 times.
Traveling to Spanish area soon so I'm testing at stuff near the bottom of my language tree now so that I actually learn stuff, though it "feels" very unsatisfying not to be able to complete the entire tree again without spending extreme amounts of time...

.......... you don’t have to get to Level 5 right away!
We in fact recommend you don’t get to Level 5 all in one go.
Level 5 is there to show that you have practiced the words in that skill a ton and probably don’t need further practice on it for quite a while. It’s completely optional. We definitely think we can do a better job of encouraging you not to binge on one skill, though, since that can feel really repetitive.
And of course we take the blame for motivating you to love and aim for gold skills!
We are considering options for users to prove their existing knowledge on skills so they can be placed at the right difficulty from the start. We also want to make it more satisfying to complete each level (and not necessarily get all the way to Level 5).
