Flåtter er faktisk arachnids! (I have no idea how arachnids translates.) Arachnider? :0)

No, no, this is Norwegian; you need to make up the most literal compound you can.

I'll give you one more try.

Edderkopper? Edderkoppdyr? I'm stumped.

Too funny. I also just learned that arthropods are leddyr (joint animals) which, in truth, isn't much different than arthropods! Love it. :0)

EDIT: Duh, I just realized you included a link that details much more!! Mye tusen takk!

Clever, clever.

Oh It pays not to be too clever....Now I'm worried! Having spent at least 45 minutes pinging every contact I know in Norway, disturbing them all as they sit in their huts admiring the sunset, to ask and confirm what is correct . And, as usual have been left with more questions still ! I thought it was "skogmann" (taught to me in a farm in Andebu) but then the ordbok says it's "Skaumann" and also "Skogbjørn" .... Another sleepless night!

Kjært barn har mange navn, as we say, though I'm not sure how dear the tick is to most people.

It's more commonly referred to as "skaumann" than "skogmann", but "skau" does mean "skog", so you can still sleep pretty soundly tonight.
