French Questions

I seem to be stuck on this block x)

There are so many ways to say a question, and what do Est-ce que and Qu'est-ce que mean?

Also what is inversion?

I am really confused and just want to know for to ask a question!

Qu'est-ce que means what is.
Est-ce que and inversions can be used for the same question. For example, Does she like the cat?
Est-ce que) Est-ce qu'elle adore le chat?
Inversion) Adore-t-elle le chat?

est-ce que = is it__? ; qu'est-ce que = what is it _?

Examples:

Est-ce qu'il est ton frere = Is he your brother? Literally: is it that he if your brother?

Qu'est-ce que tu veux faire aujourd'hui = What do you want to do today? Literally What is it that you want to do today?

Inversions are: Vous voulez = voulez-vous? ; nous mangeons = mangeons-nous?

Thanks, which are better to use? Inversions of the qu'est-ce que/est-ce que? It would seem inversions are easier but they are these formal?

Inversions are formal, yes, but not always easier, especially when you throw in pronouns. Neither is necessarily better than the other though.
