Very disappointed with the new format. The old format was much easier to use...especially when trying to focus in on specific skills.

I can't say that I completely hate it, and I also appreciate the hard work that must have been put into this update, but I am also quite disappointed to see individual lessons gone from the tree, especially when reviewing a course that has not been touched in a while.

Is there a guide or explanation of this change of format somewhere?

So far I can't see any point to changing one clearly useless metric for another apparently useless metric.

How about putting some more programming resources into useful stuff, like restoring the "bell" messages that tell me when someone has answered my questions or corrected my comments?
And surely the Activity function only needs a little more effort before it is ready to be put back into use (as "promised").

Yes, I get e-mails --- hundreds of them! I estimate approximately 30 a day, over 200 a week, of which maybe 3 or 4 are useful. Whatever policies the DL team is working to nowadays, optimising students' study time seems to be way down the list.

It's very confusing and I'm happy Duolingo staff are aware of making updates and such often, but this one is way too confusing for learners! :(

I agree, I already wrote it to different thread. I miss (at least) option to repeat exercises I already passed. And also I miss option to choose what I want to practice on my own.
