As a native English speaker I can say that "it suffices us" isn't said.

Actually, "suffice" does have a transitive form. We use it when we say, "suffice it to say." Though it seems awkward to use it out of that context, it's technically correct and probably the most direct translation of the above sentence.

As a native English speaker I can say that 'it suffices us' is most definitely said. I should clarify that I speak British English. Jane Austen uses it.
