How would one say "fear" as in "fear the worst" in French? Thanks

"to fear" as a verb is "craindre"

"Fear the worst" is "craindre le pire"

Also "avoir peur de."

I'd say "avoir peur de" is closer to "be afraid of" than "fear": we say "Je crainds le pire" but never "J'ai peur du pire"

Then, how would I express that I'm cynophobic? « J'ai peur des chiens » or « Je crainds les chiens »?

When it is about a phobia, we say "peur" more than "crains". You can add that it is a phobia if the fear is really that strong "J'ai la phobie des chiens" :)
