One Small Thing I Want Back

I got the crown update. One thing that I miss is when I click on a skill I can see all the sections that make up the skill and what words are in each section. I liked to click on certain sections if there is a couple of words or concepts that I knew that I needed extra practice on. Maybe it could be replaced by a list of words that are introduced in a lesson and we can flag the words that are harder to remember.

100% agreed. For me, that feature was essential.

I found a way to get this feature back. Check this https://www.duolingo.com/comment/26865733

I agree. It was very useful feature that I miss very much now. I got used to practice exercise already passed in my own order and quantity - some exercises are harder and some easier for me. It is not possible now. So please return this feature back. Thank you.

Yeah the new layout really changed everything. It is now difficult to find the exact area you want to study. smh

I agree on this as well.

You can use the Duolingo Schools feature and put yourself in your own class. Then you can see the vocabulary from each skill. That's what others have mentioned, and it works for me.

One caveat to this, if it matters to anyone, is that you will not be able to participate in any alpha testing. That happened to me, and I had to create a separate account for that purpose. Just FYI.

To see the words introduced in a skill click the "Start" button for it; then delete the number at the end of the URL and hit "Enter".

Thank you fopr your exploration of new duolingo - your suggestion is usable to get overview of whole lesson, but it is still a workaround. It is quite uncomfortablefor for daily usage and it does not work in mobile app at all. It is much better to add button (local menu item, whatever ...) that will do the same and will work also in mobile app. For me - it is too hard to learn many words / phrases at once - in single "strream". Much better is to repeat small amount (5 to 8 words - single "excercise") until I remenber all of them perfectly and then move to next "excercise".

I cannot tell you how much this helps me out. Being able to pick and choose which lesson I want to review and proceed at my own pace is very important to me. Having lost that choice made me question if I wanted to continue on after using the program for 4 years. Thank-you, thank-you. Here are some Lignots.

UPDATE

Well, after working with the new crown system for a bit I can say that I am thoroughly disgusted with it. I had thought that work around described by piguy 3 was going to solve the problem of not being able to pick which lesson I wanted to review. I sure was wrong about that. I can get to some of the lessons but at least for me when I got about to lesson 5 of 10 it reset to the next level and I had to start over with more difficult questions. That does me no good. If I don't understand the previous what good is is going to do to go on to more difficult items.

I am really, really close to just chucking the last four years of work and trying to find a place that will let me work and review at my own pace.

Trying this method ("To see the words introduced in a skill") on web 5/17/18 using japanese language course. Having difficulty getting to work - maybe depreciated?

Yeah, I think so.

Yeah, that's probably my major complaint with the crown system.

I used to just open up a skill that wasn't strengthened and picked a particular lesson that I felt I needed to brush back up on. Really miss that now.

Also on a side note, nice pfp. "FOR THE HORDE!" xD

Have you tried tinycards? I agree that the removal of this aspect is unfortunate, but I think that for duolingo, practice is best experienced holistically. Tinycards has a German flashcard set that breaks things down into each lesson and allows you to review and drill all of the words on their own.

Yeah I might be more reliant on it more now. Luckily they also include Russian and Italian cards for me as well.

So yeah, other people here have mentioned different ways to get this feature back, but what I've noticed from it is I've lost some of my progress. For example some full skills that I have completed, it says I've not done a single lesson from them. That means if I want to practice say, level 7 of Times and Dates, I have to redo all the previous lessons in order to unlock it. I have no idea why this has happened. Anyone else have the same issue?

https://www.duolingo.com/piguy3

Does it show you at crown level 0 for that skill?

April 10, 2018

https://www.duolingo.com/Katie7317

No, It's got level 1 on my home screen, it's just when I go into it I can't choose the lesson. Is it that it resets every time you up a level or something?

April 11, 2018

https://www.duolingo.com/piguy3

Yeah, it's that. The counter resets to zero out of however many lessons you need to reach the next crown level.
