I had the new French tree, but after the switch to the Crown system it's gone...
I'm sad, because I was really looking forward to trying the new lessons. I really wish that I had been given the chance to opt-in to the crown system, and if the new tree was going to be taken away, I wish they could have let us know in advance. I tried to give the crown system a chance, but it feels like artificial padding because the new levels don't seem to actually be harder, it's just forcing us to repeat the same lessons again and again. The new French tree was actually new material, and now it's gone. =( Are we going to get it back soon, or was I randomly kicked out of the A/B test when the new system was implemented?
I don't have a problem with the new system encouraging repetition, but so far the levels are not adding any difficulty to the lessons, and that's quite frankly extremely dull. The crown system was described as adding levels in order to add a bit of challenge to the previous lessons, and I would have welcomed that.
Instead, what I see are the exact same words being used in every lesson, and the new material that I was looking forward to experiencing has been taken away from me. I really don't see the need to do twenty lessons using the words woman, man, girl, boy, apple and orange, just to say that I'm now level five on Basics One, for example.
I would really like to know if there's any way for me to get back the new tree material, right now that's my biggest concern with this change, but if every level is like what I'm seeing in the early levels, I really think that the description of the crown system is inaccurate when it states that new levels are more challenging.
My French tree has 402 lessons in 96 skills, and yours has 358 lessons in 60 skills. So you're correct that you don't now have the new French tree. It looks like you were removed from the beta test group for reasons best known to the people conducting the test.
When the beta test is done and the problems with the new material have been corrected, the new material will most likely be given to all French learners. Some people on the forums say that beta tests last only a few months, if that's any consolation.
In the meantime, I recommend first getting all skills to level 1 before trying to get skills to higher levels.
Yes it is dull.. but it seems more effective to me. It's good for those who want to go more in depth with a lesson. Give it some time and complete all of them to level five and see how you feel about it then. Seems like half the people love it and the other half hate it.. which is interesting.
