Any Help With Lost Streak?

I have been doing German on Duolingo for over two years. I had a streak of 824 days, which I diligently kept with minimum streak freezes. I have been using my IPhone’s Duolingo app for the past few days, since I’ve been out of town.

I knew the slightly different time zone I’m currently in could be problematic for my streak, but I thought I was preventing the problem by not practicing at really late or early times of day. I also practiced extra the past two days to be even more safe. Things seemed to be going well.

Then I got on my phone’s Duolingo app this morning and discovered my 824 day streak was gone. The app shows that I did not practice at all the past two days, when I know I did (not that I expect anyone to casually take my word for it).

I’m not positive about what could have gone wrong. The only thing I can think of is that my WiFi/connection was inadequate? I didn’t think there was a problem, but clearly something happened.

I know the streak doesn’t truly matter, but that still doesn’t make me any less disappointed and surprised. I genuinely believed I was managing my streak well these past few days—until this morning.

I doubt anything can be done, but I would appreciate any help/advice at all. Thank you for reading. Hopefully I posted in the right section (this is my first time).

This is definitely a problem at Duo's end. I have had the same trouble with French and Spanish. It is only the streak freeze that has saved me. I have done various exercises, maybe 10-30 xp collected my daily winnings and then lo an behold I go back in to Duo, perhaps in the afternoon and it says I haven't practiced. Worst still you lose the work done that morning and your streak.

At first I thought it was just the French as they had updated it just before I went over to Crowns (so regret that move), but other languages are the same.

You can press this link https://www.duolingo.com/contact and once there, press "find help here" (in blue), then scroll to the bottom of the page and press "submit bug report."

I have to say that they are likely to be inundated with requests at the moment as the Crown system is not popular by my reading of the discussions.

I think a more appropriate section is 'Troubleshooting', you can still edit your post to move it there. You'll probably be more likely to get a valuable response from staff or a moderator there.

I've seen many reports about streak losses with the iPhone app lately, so I'm not sure if there is a problem on Duolingo's side or not. Unfortunately it's probably unlikely that they'll restore your streak though. You can read more about it in a reply by the admin vivisaurus to a post I made a while ago: https://www.duolingo.com/comment/26782202

I'm sorry that this happened, I hope you will quickly find motivation again to continue learning.

A similar thing happened to me as soon as the crown update reached me. 120 day streak lost. My exp was being added to the day before, keeping the current day's work at 0. That glitch lasted longer than a day, nothing I could do. I submitted a bug report but I don't think I'll see my streak restored. Like you, I know it's not really about the streak, but it still kinda sucks!
