English for Hindi speakers is now in beta!
We're excited to announce that English for Hindi speakers is now in beta! This is the 14th language course that has come out of the Duolingo Incubator. Millions of people will gain access to free language education thanks to the following volunteer community contributors: Ankit Chouksey, Jiten Gore, Poonam Pandey, AnandKulka1, Samolini and mathsislife. A huge congrats to everyone involved!
As always, with any course that first enters beta, you may catch language errors or bugs. Please make sure to report them! By doing the course you're helping make the experience better for future learners.
आइए, अंग्रेज़ी से शुरुआत करें! आगे और भी भाषाएँ आनी हैं यहाँ :)
Thanks Luis to you and your team whose support has been awesome (in the incubator speak - totally owlsome)! I am happy that the Hindi team has helped to further the noble mission you are on!
I am also very happy to see the enthusiasm among the community for our course. Before, I knew that the course was fully live and operational, so many others had already found out!
We hope that our beta learners have a great experience and we look up to them to help guide us from here on. Our team is all ears for all reports of errors, omissions, suggestions and any other feedback.
Together, let's make this a great course for the Hindi speaking would-be English learners. And of course the improvements will help the English speaking would-be Hindi learners on the reverse course!
Edit: Adding the Course Page link.
Thank you Ankit Chouksey, Jiten Gore, Poonam Pandey, and mathsislife for all of your hard work and dedication to bringing English to Hindi speakers (and all of the work you did that will also help English speakers learn Hindi! :D) Thank you. Thank you. Thank you!
Thanks, Usagiboy7! And it feels nice to see the forum interface in Devanagari as I type this comment. It also highlights the changes needed to some of the UI strings :)
And now you have one more forum to moderate! Congratulations!
I'm not sure if I'll be much help until after I've learned some Hindi. But, if Duolingo sticks around for many years (I refuse to imagine it otherwise!), you just might see me over there someday ;) Until then, please do feel free to help translate the wiki into Hindi (if ever you should find yourself bored once the Hindi courses are all golden of course ^_~)
Thank you so much हिंदी टीम! I've already done Basics 1 and it's awesome! :D It takes me a while to find the right Devanagari though, lol
Thanks for the quick and kind feedback, Adam. Yes, typing in Devanagari has a learning curve, but it gets better pretty soon.
That's encouraging...I need to refresh my devanagari...Maybe the reverse tree will be helpful...
Once this is beta-tested, they can flip the tree over to be Hindi--> English. It just requires that this be tested through first! :)
Feel like I've spent the morning in the waiting room at a Duolingo maternity ward waiting for my brother's baby to be born. :) Congrats team Hindi! May your course(s) grow up to bring much joy and understanding to the world.
Your wit, humor (and puns) are always outstanding! Great to see your picture from 2007, it is nice to see the smiling face that continues to put smiles on so many Duolingoer faces :)
