Silent treatment from Duo and never asked to "Say this in Dutch" anymore.

Why does Duo no longer ask me to say phrases in Dutch? Is anyone else also having this problem?

When asked to translate from Dutch to English, Dutch phrases on Duolingo desktop are also no longer read out loud automatically. This is annoying as I must now click the microphone to listen to the phrase and then click the text box again before being able to type my answer. What a waste of time in timed practice!

Are these two issues perhaps connected? Is there a way to restore this functionality?

Maybe the type of device I use to practice Dutch could affect whether or not I am asked this type of question. I never get them anymore, but I used to be asked to say something in Dutch much more frequently on my mobile or on a desktop computer than on my (five-year-old) laptop.

Maybe check your settings? You can (dis)able automatic audio. I don't have any issues with it yet, so it might be just that and really worth it to check your settingsā€¦ :)

I thought there was an extra option to (dis)able for automatic audio, but I just checked and apparently there isn't. Either they changed that or I mixed something up. I'm sorry.

Yes, I've been having this problem and to resolve it I have to close down what I am doing by refreshing and then restarting the skill. Yet another little glitch appearing after the change to crowns.

I've actually never been asked to say anything in Dutch, it's very odd. All my settings are set to allow it to happen. Perhaps when it asks to type something in Dutch, I can use text-to-speech.

How long have you been using Duolingo? Perhaps they no longer ask this type of question; I haven't been asked to speak in a while.

But here's what you missed: Duo gives you a phrase, written in Dutch, and then asks you to speak into your device's microphone. You say the phrase in Dutch to practice pronunciation.

I've never seen it. I know it exists in Spanish, but maybe the dutch course doesn't have it built-in. Whatever the reason, it hasn't been here for the ~360 days I've been practicing Dutch on Duolingo (I've used a lot of streak freezes, lol)

I've only been practising Dutch, and only for about 40 days. I was asked to do this in low levels already, and although I now realise that they could have stopped asking me these questions because I have progressed to higher levels, that seems an unlikely and illogical tactic. And I see in the comments above that TimDiggle has been having the same problem and Dutch is his only course also. So I know that the Dutch course has it built in.

That makes sense, I use a different browser on my laptop than on Desktop. Thanks, that must be the problem as I literally just got asked to say something in Dutch on a desktop computer minutes ago.

I have also discovered that by switching browser (from Microsoft Edge to Google Chrome) the functionality is restored and the reliability of the audio is much improved.

Chrome, however, does not allow access to discussions as it has a built in blocker!

I really do not want to be using any more than two browsers (I can live with switching between them) so if anyone knows of a browser which permits complete functionality please post it so that I can choose which of the current two to exchange.

Hi Tim. I've also been using Chome and I've had no problem acessing discusions. Maybe you should check if your settings or perhaps an add in isn't the culprit.

I also have this on my phone. Or sometimes the voice cuts in the middle of the sentence, whether online or on the app. This is getting annoying...

Have you tried to clear your history and cookies, logging in once again and trying then? Sometimes that can do the trick.
