Spanish TV series available on Netflix

Here you are a few Spanish TV series that I like. The links are to Netflix US, I am aware that some of the series won't be available in other countries... But I hope that you find this list useful.

I've edited the post to add Mar de Plástico to the list... One of my favourites, I didn't know it was in Netflix.

Second update: I've added Apaches to the list.

  • The Time In Between - With Spain on the brink of civil war, a Madrid dressmaker follows a lover to Morocco, loses a fortune, and ends up a spy for the Allies. Starring: Adriana Ugarte.

  • Morocco: Love in times of war - In 1921, nurse trainees from Madrid's upper class open a hospital in Melilla for Rif War soldiers, finding friendship and romance while saving lives. Starring: Amaia Salamanca.

  • Money Heist - When Tokyo was recruited for the heist of Spain's Royal Mint, the Professor's plan mandated zero bloodshed. But things didn't go according to plan.

  • Mar de Plástico - In a town in southern Spain where racial tensions run high among the workers in its many greenhouses, a cop investigates the murder of a young woman.

  • Velvet - In 1950s Spain, the heir to a fashion house romances a beautiful seamstress who works for the company, despite the objections of his family. Starring: Paula Echevarría and Miguel Ángel Silvestre.

  • Grand Hotel - When Julio Olmedo discovers his sister Cristina has vanished from the Grand Hotel under suspicious circumstances, he poses as a waiter to learn more.

  • The Ship - Forty young crew members traveling aboard a training vessel are in for the adventure of a lifetime -- especially when a storm leaves them lost at sea. Starring: Mario Casas and Blanca Suárez.

  • The Ministry of Time - Three officers from different eras work for a secret agency guarding Spain's past from time-traveling intruders trying to manipulate history.

  • The Boarding School - When strange events begin to occur at the elite Laguna Negra boarding school, a group of students uncover dark secrets about its past.

  • Apaches - A young journalist is forced into a life of crime to save his father and family in this series based on the novel by Miguel Sáez Carral.

Have you seen any of them, even if in English? Which one do you think you would like the most?

El Tiempo Entre Costuras (The Time in Between) is excellent! Great cinematography, costumes, sets, props - really well done.

Totally agree with you.

With Neflix "productions" you can mix and match. Spoken Spanish, english subtitles, or vice versa. This can be done in many languages, so you can combine your second and third language for instance. I usually use spoken Spanish with subtitles in another language I am familiar with, but it probably would be better to also use Spanish subtitles, but that is more difficult.

I am a native Spanish speaker. I usually choose spoken English with subtitles in English, but I will consider choosing Portuguese subtitles in the future. Thanks!

The Ministry of Time sounds interesting.

The best thing about The Ministry of Time is that you get to know the history of Spain while having a great time.

Here's a catalogue of movies/series on Netflix with good subtitles, sorted by language: http://languagelearningwithnetflix.com/catalogue.html

Also, here's a free extension that adds bilingual subs, pop-up dictionary, and improved playback control: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/lln-language-learning-wit/hoombieeljmmljlkjmnheibnpciblicm

Loving El Ministerio del Tiempo. Also fun learning about the history of Spain and thinking about how things each culture/country thinks are "super important events" may not really be known much at all outside it. I watch a couple American time travel shows too and I hadn't thought of the events they go to in the same way.

Also I'd add Cable Girls. It's actually what got me back onto Duolingo - it was suggested to me, and while watching I thought gee, I really should go back to learning Spanish so I can understand more of what they're saying instead of relying only on the subtitles.

Haven't seen Cable Girls yet, but it's in my list now. Thanks!

I see a lot of Spanish TV series, and a few from the UK or the US, but this comment makes me think I should look for series from other countries...

I've been watching Money Heist, which is fantastic viewing. Not finished it yet, but definitely one of the best programmes on Netflix ATM.

try "LA REINA DEL SUR'. it's based on the book QUEEN OF THE SOUTH and it's addicting. the actors are excellent!

I watched all of El Internado de Laguna Negra- it was a fun sci-fi, soap opera. It might have been written for teenagers, but it was entertaining with a lot of unexpected and outlandish plot twists.

I also watched a bit of Velvet, but it didn't hold my attention as much. It's a lovely love story.

In both of these shows from Spain, all the characters are beautiful.

Happy watching

El Barco was my favorite. It’s like Lost but more action. I’m watching El Ministero de Tiempo now. It good, but the third seasons seems different due to Netflix becoming the producer.

Haven't seen the third season yet. Is it too different?

Funny you mention it. Bing watching Lord of the Skies (El Señor de los Cielos) is what motivated me to learn Spanish. So now I am binging on Duolingo, up to Level 17 so far.

Thank you for the list.

La Casa de Papel (the actual name) or "Money Heist" is very good, outside of just learning Spanish. I started some of the other ones, but I couldn't deal with; they felt too monotonous to me.

El Marginal was alright, & Alias JJ has some positives, & I liked Cable Girls a bit. But like I said, I found a lot of those shows a bit monotonous :/ But go for La Casa de Papel (en mi opinion, es el mejor série que he visto en español)

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/drunkawe

It's curious, because when "La casa de papel" was aired in Spain it wasn't a big success... The producers sold it to Netflix and it's been a huge success all aroung the world.

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/BeCreative__

Thats odd, I wonder why. I really liked it. When it first came out on netflix they called it La casa de Papel, then changed it to Money Heist I think to draw in english viewers. I really didn't like that. But what you said is odd; I wonder what kind of television/series they do like there.

https://www.duolingo.com/profile/drunkawe

According to a producer the reason behind those numbers could well be the fact that the series is so "addictive" that it is difficult to keep you interested for one week... People chose viewing it in different platforms, such as Antena 3's website, so that they could view a whole season in one weekend. That's also why it's been a hit in Netflix, because that is what Netflix does best.

Hm, It makes sense it all makes sense what the parameters for it are :/

I loved "La Hipocondriaca". It's about a girl who gets misdiagnosed with a terminal disease and the doctor falls in love with her. It's actually very funny.
