How do you know if it's "itt van" or "van itt"?
ב"ה As in oftentimes I'm having difficulty with word order. Any hints?
Most of the time, both of them are correct.
The emphasis is different.
Van itt egy alma. There is and apple here.
Itt van egy alma. Here is an apple.
Van itt egy alma? Is there an apple here?
Itt van egy alma? Is there an apple here?
Itt van egy alma? Here is an apple? (Even in the Hungarian sentence, it depend on the emphasized word in speaking.)
Itt van az alma? Here is the apple?
BUT "Van itt az alma?" Is wrong. You are speaking of a definite apple, it does not make sense to ask it exists or not. Only asking for its location is okay.
Same with the statement. Itt van az alma is good, but Van itt az alma is unnatural.
